High gloss is a type of finish that reflects as much light as possible. It enhances the paint color and also makes the surface smooth, shiny, and easy to clean.

High gloss is frequently used in kitchens because it’s durable and easy to maintain. But not all high-gloss finishes are the same, so you need to consider a few things before making a decision.

Kitchen cabinets, countertops, and floors are the most common kitchen surfaces that might benefit from a high-gloss finish. The decision on whether or not they should be high gloss largely comes down to personal preference.

High gloss on kitchen cabinets can make them look more modern, but also more formal if you have an open kitchen with a dining area.

If you want your cabinets to stand out and grab attention, go for high gloss. But if you want your cabinetry to blend in with the other elements in your space, be careful about how you use it.

If you want your countertops to be glossy, consider using stone or tile instead of laminate because those materials come with glossy finishes on their own.

A high-gloss finish is also easier to maintain on such hard surfaces than it is on wood or laminate countertops.

However, high gloss is typically used for hardwood flooring or accent pieces such as furniture and is not typically recommended for kitchen cabinets or countertops.

Semi-gloss finishes, on the other hand, are easier to clean. This is why semi-gloss finishes are most commonly recommended for kitchen cabinets and countertops.

The lower the gloss on any surface, the more dirt and fingerprints will show. This makes high gloss finishes less desirable for kitchens that get heavy use, but high gloss can be a good option if you want to make a bold design statement.
