Buying a new game console is always exciting and easily one of the best decisions you’ve made. However, it is also easy to make costly mistakes in the process. Luckily for you, I’m going to help you avoid these common three mistakes when purchasing a new console.

  1. Having a Console That is Too Expensive:

There is no reason to spend more than $300 on a console, and maybe not any reason to spend more than $200. Games are expensive, but they are only expensive if you don’t have an Xbox Live account or a Playstation Plus account. So before you even think of buying a console, start planning on getting one of those. You will save an enormous amount of money in the long run.

  1. Not Testing The Game Console First:

The second biggest mistake is not going to GameStop or Best Buy or wherever else and test-driving the console with some games before you buy it. It seems like a waste to buy something and then find out that you don’t like it once it’s yours, but there is no better way to figure out if you will like it than actually trying it out for yourself.

  1. Blindly Following The Trends:

Get caught up in rumors about which console is “better.” Always remember that the most important thing about a gaming console is what games there are for it. That is more important than its specs; specs change every few years anyway, but the library of games will be what you live with for years.
